'The Prairie CMC' newsletter (September 2023) by Jerry A Ozipko
"South Korean/US composer Sungji Hong presents a musical representation of the scriptural verse found in Mark 15:37, which reads, "With a loud cry, Jesus breathed His last." These words are expressed in the original Greek text as "EXEPNEFSEN" (2021), which serves as the title for the work. The expression through music of the tremendously agonizing suffering of The Saviour just before His death is full of restlessness and tension expressed in the form of quarter-tone pitches, double trills, glissandi and multiphonics, among other devices."

5 star review from BBC Music Magazine
“This is impressive. A largely contemporary, contemplative, and often complex programme is performed with exceptional poise by the girls’ choir and harpist Cheryl Ann Fulton. Sungji Hong’s mesmeric Lux Aeterna is the pick of several highlights.”
