Sungji Hong receives 2022 Guggenheim Fellowship.

Since 1925, Guggenheim Fellowships have been offered to exceptional individuals in pursuit of scholarship in any field of knowledge and creation of any artform, under the freest possible conditions and irrespective of race, color, or creed to those making their mark in the social sciences, natural sciences, humanities and creative arts.”

Guggenheim Fellowships are intended for mid-career individuals who have demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts and exhibit great promise for their future endeavors.

Sungji Hong receives American Academy of Arts and Letters' Charles Ives Fellowship.

The American Academy of Arts and Letters announced on February 15, 2022, the recipients of this year's awards in music, selected by a committee of Academy members: Chen Yi (chair), John Corigliano, Stephen Hartke, George Lewis, Augusta Read Thomas, Chinary Ung, and Julia Wolfe. 

Sungji Hong has been awarded a Charles Ives Fellowship from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. The prize, funded by the family of the late composer, Charles Ives, is bestowed on “a composer of exceptional gift.” The awards will be presented at the Academy’s Ceremonial on May 18, 2022 at the academy headquarters in New York City.

World Premiere of LUX AETERNA

iSing Silicon Valley commissioned Sungji Hong to write a new work, LUX AETERNA for SSA a cappella.

 

Lux Aeterna was performed by iSing Silicon Valley under the direction of Jennah Delp Somers on May 22 at 4pm and 6:30 pm at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph in San Jose (CA), USA.

World Premiere of ESTAVROSAN

 

On 27 May 2022, SonoMania premieres Sungji Hong's composition, ESTAVROSAN for flute, bass clarinet, violin, violoncello, and piano under the direction of Simona Strungaru during the International Music Week in Bucharest, Romania.

Sungji Hong was awarded a 2019 commission by the Fromm Music Foundation. These commissions represent one of the principal ways that the Fromm Music Foundation seeks to strengthen composition and to bring contemporary concert music closer to the public. In addition to the commissioning fee, a subsidy is available for the ensemble performing the premiere of the commissioned work.

Sungji Hong made an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM)

The Academy is pleased to announce the musicians and performers who will be conferred honours at its 2022 graduation ceremony. This is a particularly important year, as it marks the conservatoire’s bicentenary.

Sungji Hong has been elected by the Governing Body as an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM).​

Sungji Hong’s Associateship of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM) was announced in this year’s Royal Academy of Music Honours List. This honour is awarded to past students of the Academy who have distinguished themselves in the music profession and made a significant contribution to it in their particular field.

Asian Premiere of AGONIA

Eunme Lee, flute and Ju-yong Lee, piano, performed AGONIA for flute, and piano on October 17 during the 50th PAN Music Festival at Ilshin Hall in Seoul, Korea.

Asian Premiere of EXEPNEFSEN

Minkyung Chun performed EXEPNEFSEN for oboe and electronics during Daegu International Computer Music Festival, Daegu Concert House (Chamber Hall), Daegu/Korea.
